China's Ministry of Natural Resources Tsunami Warning Center preliminarily reported a magnitude-7.3 earthquake at 22:48 on July 17, 2026 (Beijing time) offshore Chiapas, Mexico (14.64°N, 93.00°W), depth 20 km. Earthquake parameters are subject to confirmation by cenc. Based on preliminary data, the center said a local tsunami may be generated near the epicenter but will not affect China's coast. The center will continue to monitor seismic and tsunami data and issue updates as required.
