On 27 June, the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet said they killed Walid Haniya, a commander in Hamas's elite 'Nukhba' unit, two days earlier. Walid Haniya is the nephew of former Hamas political bureau leader Ismail Haniya. Hamas did not immediately comment.
