A mass shooting at a residence in Caswell County, North Carolina, on Aug. 5 left multiple people dead and injured, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) said. County officers who responded to a morning call found several gunshot victims; one was taken to hospital in unknown condition and several others were dead. Iran deputy foreign minister Gharibabadi said on the 5th the United States contacted Tehran 4–5 days after a new round of conflict began, seeking to resolve the issue through negotiations. He said arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz should be negotiated only between Iran and Oman and that Iran will not accept external involvement. The foreign ministry said Iran and Oman have agreed on shipping lanes through the strait and are finalizing arrangements for joint management. Iranian officials stressed reopening depends on the U.S. fulfilling its commitment to end the blockade, saying insecurity in the strait stems from U.S. maritime actions and other aggressive measures against Iran and its interests.
